Practicing Well

June 22nd, 2009 | By Jay McGrath

Golf is the most difficult game to become good at, hands down. The only way to truly excel in golf is to have the patience and ability to practice constantly and understand that the most important aspect of the game is its unpredictability. If every player was to hit straight drives, make every putt, and hit perfect approach shots, the game would not be nearly as difficult, obviously. What separates the elite players from those who struggle often is the amount of time spent practicing and mental focus the players have while on the course.

“Hit the shot you know you can hit, not the one you think you should.” - Bob Rotella

This quote emphasizes the amount of practice that is needed to become a successful golfer. Professionals understand that they are shooting a shot that they have practiced countless times every time they step up to the tee box or to putt. An amateur, on the other hand, may believe that if they swing like they practiced at the range, they will succeed. The only way to practice all the shots is to simulate conditions as best as possible. By using golf hitting mats, putting greens, and golf driving range mats, this simulation can be made and you too can know you can hit a shot as opposed to just thinking you can.

Further, Straighter Drives

June 18th, 2009 | By Jay McGrath

Excelling with the driver can eliminate some of the need for iron shots on shorter holes, and ultimately can improve your chances of reaching par fives in two, or having a simple pitch shots on par fours. The only way to improve your drive, however, is to practice often.

Betsy Rawls, four time winner of the US Open, said that, “once you play in a tournament, you really get hooked on practice.”

By understanding that practice is vital to determining how successful you can be as a golfer, your game will elevate to new levels. By using golf driving range mats and golf hitting mats, practicing can become much easier as well. Not only will your game be improving, but you will be developing new, simple practice routines that ultimately could occur in the backyard.
